NEW YORK SERIES Spirits of the Past
This picture was intended to depict the Past and the Present. My
wife, Colleen, and I visited Ellis Island two years before, but I brought
only my point-and-shoot camera. We both knew where the famous Immigrants'
Wall is, so we agreed we'd meet there after I photographed the rest of the
Museum and it's grounds. When I came near the wall, I saw Colleen trying to
find her ancestors' name so I moved to the left to compose an image with the
World Trade Center visible beyond the wall: the Past and the Present
juxtaposed in one composition. Just as I pushed the camera button, Colleen
found her ancestors' name and placed her finger upon the wall near it. She
never knew I took these two pictures until after Sept 11, and truthfully,
with everything that happened, I had forgotten about them, until I looked at
the negatives. Notice the reflections on the wall. Ghosts? |
